Graduate Admissions System
GDA
A web-based, interactive system designed to help the Graduate Admissions office, its primary user, manage all aspects of applications processing for graduate study at University of California, Berkeley. Applicants to any of the graduate programs in the 132 academic departments are able to apply online from any computer with an Internet connection, using a Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer web browser. Applicants are also allowed to submit secure online credit card transactions to pay for their application fees. For a small percentage of applications submitted on a paper form, data are key-entered into the system by staff. Graduate admissions data are stored in an Oracle database and made available to admission officers as well as staff from graduate departments for review, evaluation, recommendation, and admission. Data are accessible via web-enabled screens, reports, and predefined data extracts. The system uses CalNet to authenticate authorized staff to process graduate applications. GDA interfaces with other SIS systems that reside on the mainframe like SID and REG, and provides routine data feed to various departments on campus. GDA also loads official GRE and TOEFL scores received from the College Board Testing Services (ETS) and matches them to the applicants records.
