| This section is for those who will install a third party security suite in lieu of using the one supplied by Microsoft. This section will take you through the steps necessary prior to installing third party IDS (Intrusion Detection Systems, i.e. firewall, anti-virus, etc). It is highly recommended users go with third party products since they have more features and provide additional protections. |
| |
| Lets get started (no pun intended...) by clicking the start button and navigate to settings and then click on the control panel option. |
|
| |
| Depending on your configuration you will see a window similar to this one. Find the "Security Center" icon and double click it. |
|
| |
| The windows security center window will open. Choose the "Change the way Security Center alerts me" choice/link located on the left side under the heading of "Resources" and click it. |
|
| |
| In this section uncheck all the boxes and click "Ok". |
|
| |
| Click the "Automatic Updates" link under the heading of "Virus Protection: Manage security settings for:". |
|
| |
| Check the radio button next to "Notify me but don't automatically download or install them" option. Click "Ok". |
|
| |
| Click on the "Windows Firewall" option in the same area as the last item. |
|
| |
| Select the "General" tab and click the radio button next to "Off (not recommended)" option. Click "Ok". |
|
| |
| This will allow you to run a third party security suite that includes a firewall and anti-virus program. |
